Dynamo machine
A dynamo machine is an electrical generator that converts mechanical energy into direct current electricity through electromagnetic induction. It is one of the earliest and most important devices in the history of electrical engineering, laying the foundation for modern power generation and many practical applications.The basic principle of a dynamo is simple yet powerful. When a conductor, such as a coil of wire, moves through a magnetic field, an electric current is induced in the conductor. This happens because the changing magnetic flux creates an electromotive force, which pushes electrons through the wire. In a dynamo, this motion is usually produced by rotating a coil or armature inside a magnetic field, or by rotating a magnetic field around a stationary coil.A typical dynamo machine consists of several main parts: a field magnet, an armature, a commutator, brushes, and a rotating shaft. The brushes maintain electrical contact between the rotating and stationary parts and transfer current to the outside circuit. For this reason, dynamos have largely been replaced in many areas by alternating current generators and electronic rectifiers.Even so, the dynamo remains an important educational and historical machine.
